BLESSINGS TO THOSE WALKING IN THE LORD'S GENTLENESS,
We can focus all our attention on trying to show gentleness to others, but
in our own effort it isn't long before we find the actions of others causing us to
strike out in anger and bitterness. We think foolish thoughts like, “Why can't that person be like me?”
There is a need for gentleness that we do not find in ourselves, and we reach out to the Spirit in this time of need.
Although most people know that Jesus says ‘Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth’ (Matthew 5:5), not as many people know that, in saying this, Jesus was echoing something from the Psalms: ‘But the meek shall inherit the earth’ (37:11). Jesus is showing that he is fulfilling or complementing Jewish law, rather than replacing it with a new one.
